TIM ETCHELLS
Feb 4 - Mar 14, 2010
For his first solo show in London Sheffield-based artist, performer and writer Tim Etchells presents for the first time in the UK, 'Art Flavours', commissioned for Manifesta 7 in 2008. The project involves the creation of new ice cream flavours, inspired by contemporary art: the body, memory, the spectacle and the archive. Developed through a series of meetings with a local ice-cream maker and an art writer, 'Art Flavours' is an encounter between popular confectionary and art practice, playing with the possibility of translating languages and ideas.

Sep 18 - Nov 7, 2010
A group exhibition that explores historical and contemporary examinations of the sea and the offshore as contested cultural, political, legal and socio-economic territories. Focusing on specific events, situations and mythologies attached to past and recent maritime history, the works address power relations at sea and the forms of resistance and survival developed as a response. Hydrarchy: Power and Resistance at Sea brings together artists whose work explores themes encompassing colonialism and the slave trade, commerce, sea tourism and offshore finance, as well as maritime folk history, piracy and the proverbially tyrannical figure of the captain. While not always explicitly referenced in the works, the ship, as the ultimate container and enabler of these activities, histories and relations, stands as the unifying element of the exhibition.
