'truth.lie.lie' is an exhibition investigating the methods for manipulation of perspective and truth. It explores the subjectivity of subtitles, the isolation of narratives and the coexistence of incompatible evidence. For Cotterrell’s sixth solo exhibition with Danielle Arnaud, the gallery is adopted as an environment to stage and collate experiments with media manipulation and partial narratives.
At a time of resurgent polarisation and increasing nationalism, the exhibition considers the differentiation of privilege and prejudice that can be facilitated through selective editing, errors of translation and unchallenged vantage points.
