VIEWING ROOM: EMA PINA WITH ANNETTE FERNANDO
Apr 6 - May 5, 2019
An exhibition of works on paper and writings by Thames-Side Studios-based painter Ema Pina and fellow artist Annette Fernando, who share an interest in the political dimension of personal experience and self-awareness.

Fernando draws from mediated images, sourced primarily from television and film. She selects the part of the story that resonates with her, while bringing to light clichéd depictions of masculinity and femininity embedded within cultures. www.annettefernando.carbonmade.com

Pina attempts to reconcile her analytical observations of the outside world with meandering inner thoughts. Her new works focus on the body at rest, idle states of mind and related surrounding environments.

LOUNGE: BOB DAWSON
Apr 6 - May 5, 2019
“Everything is near, nothing is far away, the universe or the painting on the wall.” - Izis Bidermanas, photographer (1911-1980)

Mystical landscapes and cityscapes, figures in poetic expression, views from a spaceship. Thames-Side Studios-based painter Bob Dawson (0-38) exhibits a selection of paintings and photographs inspired by music, poems and literature. Imagery the artist describes as falling into the realms of 'magic realism'.

OCULAR INC. CURATED BY NEENA PERCY AND LIZZY DRURY
Apr 13 - 28, 2019
Johann Arens, Claire Baily, Bhagwati Prasad + Hemant Sreekumar, Felix Bahret, Victoria Craven, Naomi Fitzsimmons, Rhona Foster, Lilah Fowler, Rae Hicks, Saudamini Kalra, Jon Kipps, Alice May-Williams, Kusheda Mensah, Milly Thompson, Suzanne Treister, Jack West, Rafal Zajko. Curated by Neena Percy and Lizzy Drury.

Ocular Inc. transforms the Thames-Side Studios Gallery into an anonymous workplace. The exhibition takes place at a poignant and uncertain economic and political moment. From sculpture, to video and sound, artworks come together to direct the viewer-come-employee around the site, whilst addressing past, current and imagined modes of labour. UK and international artists’ manual and technological processes of manufacturing examine work, escapism and reward, questioning the status of the artist’s ‘job’ as maker.

VIEWING ROOM: LAURA HUDSON
May 11 - 26, 2019
For Viewing Room Laura showcases a new body of work begun in November 2018. A figurative departure, capturing processes of memory and the influx of imagery that cannot help but reflect both present conditions and previous knowledge. Irreverent, porous and scripted with political intent.

LOUNGE: LIAM-HASSAN-BESEREKUMO
May 11 - 26, 2019
Liam-Hassan-Beserekumo is a self-taught artist with learning disabilities. He specialises in semi-abstract painting, figuratively influenced images, buildings and responses to his feelings at the time of painting.

Liam began his art career while attending a day centre in east London. He then moved out of the day centre to his current studio at Thames-Side Studios in 2012. He strongly believes that his own progression can be used to encourage others who attend day services but feel stuck, unable to express their feelings, lack independence and are in need of inspiration.
