RICHARD BOLHUIS : ANCESTRAL ROOTS
Sep 7 - 17, 2017
In the world of visual arts, Richard Bolhuis (NL/UK) is widely considered a musician. In music however, Bolhuis is likened more as a visual artist. He maintains a sense of mystery and an altruistic urge to create, all the while being a headstrong and vulnerable spirit. Instead of letting one art form define or encompass his body of work, he carves out his own space. His interdisciplinairy installations consist of soundscapes, film loops, drawings and performances. Many of his installations take place outside. Murals and drawings on squares, windows, buildings and towers become one with the natural surroundings.

Bolhuis exhibited and performed in the Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam), Groninger Museum (Groningen), Paradiso (Amsterdam), STUK (Leuven)

"Convergences in Time’ comes from many years of art practice. The subject of my work has always been the human body, though it can be present in its absence when dealing with aspects of human experience. Through metaphor, and a process of electronic manipulation, I created hybrid forms. In this exhibition I have made large a photograph of a tiny piece of my skin at nano scale, showing contrasting phases in our consciousness of reality itself. My interest in the body/mind is rooted in my experience of developing and living with diabetes and its complications for 42 years".
