Lis Rhodes is a pioneer of experimental filmmaking and a major figure in the history of artists working with film in Britain. Dissident Lines is Rhodes’ largest exhibition to date, and will span almost 50 years of work. Significantly, this is the first time that Nottingham Contemporary has ever dedicated all of its galleries to a retrospective. The exhibition will span Rhodes’ entire career, from iconic pieces such as Dresden Dynamo and Light Music to a specially commissioned new work. Dissident Lines will be accompanied by a comprehensive monograph.

UNDEAD : POP CULTURE IN BRITAIN BEYOND THE BAUHAUS
Sep 21, 2019 - Jan 5, 2020
Undead explores the Bauhaus in relation to art and subculture in Britain. Coinciding with the centenary of the Bauhaus’s founding in Weimar, the exhibition traces how this model of experimentation lived on, refracting into the spheres of fashion, electronic music, film and design. Spanning the 1920s to the 1980s, and including works by some 30 artists. At a moment of dramatic change for art education in the West, Undead tracks the changing shape of the art school, examining how the 20th century’s best-known model was transmitted and reimagined.
