ANTHONY MCCALL : SOLID LIGHT WORKS

Solid Light Works will be the first major UK exhibition of artist Anthony McCall’s work in over a decade. It will explore all facets of his work and will include the UK premiere of three new ‘solid light’ installations.
 
McCall describes his practice as existing in the space where cinema, sculpture and drawing overlap. He is best known for his large-scale, immersive sculptural light installations that incorporate the visitor and invite them to become active participants in the work.

MODERN NATURE : BRITISH PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE HYMAN COLLECTION

The Hyman Collection is the private collection of Claire and James Hyman. The Collection seeks to support and promote British photography through acquisitions, loans and education. In 2015 britishphotography.org was launched to provide online access to British photographs in the collection and as a learning resource to increase international awareness of British photography.

THE HEPWORTH PRIZE FOR SCULPTURE

Named to honour the legacy of Wakefield-born artist, Barbara Hepworth, The Hepworth Prize for Sculpture is the UK’s most significant prize to recognise the medium of sculpture.
 
Open to British or UK based artists of any age and at any stage in their career, the 30,000 biennial award celebrates artists who have made a significant contribution to sculpture in its broadest definition.
 
An exhibition of work by the five artists shortlisted for the prize will be presented.

Kenyan-born Magdalene Odundo OBE is one of the world’s most esteemed ceramic artists. This major exhibition will bring together more than 50 of Odundo’s vessels alongside a large selection of historic and contemporary objects which she has curated to reveal the vast range of references from around the globe that have informed the development of her unique work.

YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE INTERNATIONAL

Exploring sculpture in its many forms by international artists, this festival of sculpture across Leeds and Wakefield builds upon Yorkshire’s rich history as the birthplace of pioneering sculptors Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Yorkshire Sculpture International is organised by four world-renowned cultural institutions – the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds Art Gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield and Yorkshire Sculpture Park – and will include major new outdoor commissions across both cities.
