SABINE MORITZ : PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS
Nov 22, 2018 - Jan 4, 2019
The artist will debut a new series
of large abstract oil paintings, accompanied by new figurative works on canvas and on paper.
Moritz’s first abstract work was exhibited at the gallery in 2015 as a part of her exhibition, Harvest. It was closely related to her figurative painting,
which employed photographs from post-war Soviet Union as source material. Continuing from this trajectory, Moritz’s explorations into abstraction
grew through the development of her use of colour and the exaggeration of her brushstrokes, eventually progressing into this autonomous new
series. These new large abstract paintings are intense compositions of dynamic impasto brushstrokes. Their vivid colours and forms evoke a wide
spectrum of visual and emotional associations.

May 31 - Jun 26, 2019
Pilar Corrias is pleased to present Nightjars and Allies, the fourth solo exhibition by American artist Elizabeth Neel. The exhibition features new paintings on canvas that continue to foreground Neel’s reflections on our surrounding physical landscape as well as the inner landscape of the mind.
Her new large-scale gestural paintings are built up through layers of acrylic paint on canvas, weaving transparent and opaque streams of liquid through negative space. She pours, brushes, prints, rolls and folds paint, propagating a choreography of marks that mirror the bilateral architecture of the body and its movement through environments of human habitation. By creating layered sets of mirrored applications and motifs she suggests an empirical yet ecstatic set of similes for the viewer to contemplate from an indivisible visual and emotional perspective.
