JERWOOD STAGING SERIES 2019: ONYEKA IGWE-THERE WERE TWO BROTHERS
Sep 4, 2019 7:00pm - 9:00pm talk/event
There Were Two Brothers features the premiere screening of the names have changed including my own and truths have been altered, a new film work by Onyeka Igwe.

The work brings together three interconnected narratives – a story of the artist’s grandfather, one of ‘the land’, and another detailing an encounter with Nigeria – which the film attempts to tell in as many ways as possible. This is accompanied by an installation of images, objects and soundscapes that relate to the central folk story that structures the film.

Sep 11, 2019 7:00pm - 9:00pm talk/event
At the point where the body and the rock meet, where the corporeal and the lithic intertwine, this thin space is where it can be found.

in the midst of her elemental composition* is an evening exploring interconnections between the human and the lithic, with a focus on the artist’s own body and its geological heritage in the Western Isles. Considering the thin space between these bodies and the points at which they meet, AJ Stockwell’s research concentrates on how this relationship can be articulated and in what tongue. Drawing upon a text written and translated from Michel Serres as a starting point, this new body of research is presented through sculpture, performance and audio. Water is central to connecting the corporeal with the lithic and as part of the performance the audience are invited to drink together from water collected in North Uist by the artist, which has filtered through the ancient rock body of this land. As the sun sets the performance progresses into a deep listening environment, where the audio piece is presented.
This is free to attend. Booking is required via Eventbrite. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/jerwood-staging-series-2019-aj-stockwell-in-the-midst-of-her-elemental-composition-tickets-66203062141

JERWOOD STAGING SERIES 2019: COMMON POSITIONS - SEÁN ELDER
Sep 14, 2019 2:00pm - 6:00pm talk/event
Birmingham-based curator Seán Elder brings together moving image and object-based artworks that depict and support moments of communal imagination, action, rest and thought.

Within the gallery spaces, Aberdeen-based artist Kirsty Russell presents opportunities for listening, reading, and spending time together, accompanied by a screening of ‘Desires Will Leave The House And Take To The Streets’ (1998). The film depicts a process of communities and networks critiquing, desiring and imagining a new public space for St Pauli, Hamburg, which resulted in the establishment of Park Fiction. This and other films will be screened alongside the new work presented by Kirsty Russell, which speak to a preoccupation with inhabiting spaces with support, invitation and maintenance.
This is free to attend. Booking is required via Eventbrite. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/jerwood-staging-series-2019-common-positions-curated-by-sean-elder-tickets-66201373089
