A panel discussion which takes a drawing by Barbara Walker, Exotic Detail in The Margin #2 – which has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2017 – as a starting point to discuss drawing in relation to erasure, documentation and witness. With panelists Barbara Walker, artist; Kate Macfarlane, co-director, The Drawing Room; and Adelaide Bannerman, co-curator of The Place is Here. Chaired by Professor Anita Taylor, Director Jerwood Drawing Prize and Executive Dean of Bath School of Art & Design at Bath Spa University.

Jason Hickel, anthropologist at London School of Economics, gives an introductory talk on Degrowth, a social, political and economic movement that advocates for the downscaling of production and consumption—the contraction of economies—arguing that over-consumption lies at the root of long term environmental issues and social inequalities.
 
Dr Jason Hickel is an anthropologist whose research focuses on inequality, global justice, and alternative economics. He is the author of a number of books, most recently The Divide: A Brief Guide to Global Inequality and its Solutions (Penguin, 2017). In addition to his academic work, Jason writes a column on development issues for The Guardian, and contributes to a number of other online outlets. He works as Policy Director with /The Rules collective, serves on the executive board of Academics Stand Against Poverty, and holds a Fellowship at the Royal Society of Arts.

VOYAGE OF THE RELIC TRAVELLER

Voyage of the Relic Traveller is a new performance by Larry Achiampong with Shiraz Bayjoo. Directly linked with Achiampong’s Afrofuturist project Relic Traveller, the performance simultaneously combines multi-channel visuals depicting historical, present and future colonial narratives accompanied by an intense, beat-driven live soundtrack of remixed audio and spoken word.
