Chaired by A Painting Show’s curator Mark Connolly, join us to hear exhibiting artists share insights into their work.

Speakers will weave together their personal research approaches, and how this feeds into their creative path and success.

Situated within the exhibition itself, there will be a Q & A session with the opportunity to reflect on the works.

Madeylnn Green

Madelynn Green (b. 1993 in Milwaukee, USA) lives and works in London. Referencing the visual language of film photography, with its distinctive haze and ambiguity, Green's paintings function as the physical embodiments of underrepresented histories and visually engender social and political concepts.

Ethan Caflisch 

Ethan (b. 1993 Oshkosh, Wisconsin) started at a young age working in ceramics. He attended California College of the Arts (2011-2015) and graduated with an individualised Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Visual Studies minor; focusing on painting, sculpture, interior design, and film. He has shown at many institutions internationally, including the Richmond Art Center, Royal Scottish Academy, Southern Exposure, Cheryl Hazan Gallery, and ICA San Jose. Caflisch (pronounced cuh-fleesh) is currently living and working in London, England. His diverse body of work encompasses painting, sculpture, and photography.

Ned Armstrong

Ned (b. 1992, London) lives and works in London and graduated from the Turps Banana Painting Programme (2021) and Edinburgh College of Art (2016). Recent solo exhibitions include Eyeful, Mouthful, Peaceful, A.P.T Gallery (London, 2022) and All Over, Middlesex Presents (London, 2018). Recent select group exhibitions include Hand in Glove, A.P.T Gallery (London, 2022), Bloomberg New Contemporaries, South London Gallery (London, 2021), Turps Banana, Thameside Gallery (London, 2021), Glass Houses, Mcbeans Orchid Nursery (East Sussex, 2020).

Karolina Albricht

Karolina (b. Krakow, Poland) is a painter working and living in London. She graduated with an MA from The Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2008. Prior to that she completed Socrates-Erasmus at ArtEZ Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands in 2007. In 2020 she finished Turps Studio Programme in London. Her recent solo exhibitions include 16 Branches High at Studio West (London, UK) and OFF-BEAT at JGM Gallery (London, UK). Her recent group exhibitions include Close Corners at Turps Gallery, Studio Response: 03 at Saatchi Gallery (London, UK), Ingram Prize at Unit 3 Gallery (London, UK), A Faint Ground at HilbertRaum (Berlin, Germany) and Generous Space at Hastings Contemporary (Hastings, UK). Albricht was shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize, Ingram Prize, RA Summer Exhibition, APT & Fenton Arts Trust Award amongst others. Her work is in private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Paint Talk | @paint_talk :

Paint Talk is a curatorial platform based in London, founded by Mark Connolly.

It was founded as an umbrella for ongoing projects, exhibitions and collaborations.

Initially existing solely as a digital platform @paint_talk, where invited artists would have total freedom to share anything and everything connected to their studio practice. This entailed glances into each artist's practice over the years, sources of inspiration, references to historical and contemporary influences, the work of peers, studio views, works in progress, live video streaming of private views etc.

The account, led by the invited artists, has created a highly engaged community, a digital resource, generating discourse around historical and contemporary painting.

Breaking away from digital space, Paint Talk has delivered several exhibitions in the UK and Belgium, co-founded The Waverton Art Prize, and will soon deliver a podcast focused on interviewing painters.

The vision for Paint Talk lies both in and beyond curation, presenting the work of emerging and established artists is and will continue to be a central focus.

About the exhibition:

Staffordshire St x Paint Talk present A Painting Show. Taking inspiration from the work of Francisco Goya (1746 - 1842), 26 painters will exhibit an entire spectrum of work.

A Painting Show seeks to reflect and embody the endless possibilities of paint. Expansive, immersive abstraction, a varying trail of graphic language, observed reality, canvases turned in on themselves, portraits, patterns, all manner of heads, architectural structures, collaged, stitched, scored, dense surfaces, saturated colour, coupled with the precise rendering of matter. The scale of approach and matter are wide and sweeping.
