Overview

A century of selected works on paper from the Schlee Collection, Southampton and the Ben Uri Collection, London Bringing together selected works from the Philip Schlee collection of drawings, prints and paintings by 20th century and contemporary artists working in Britain between 1920 and 2004 and resonant works on paper from Ben Uri’s own collection. Comprising 55 works celebrating the diversity and richness of both collections, and encompassing Ben Uri’s remarkable first century, it covers a wide range of subject matter from figuration to abstraction and includes paired works by modern British artists Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, Jane Joseph, Leon Kossoff, Michael Rothenstein, Glenn Sujo and Edward Toledano, who are each represented in both collections. Work is also included by artists Gillian Ayres, Sandra Blow, Bernard Cohen, Roger Hilton, David Hockney, Peter Lanyon, Christopher Le Brun, Sarah Lightman, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and John Virtue, who have each contributed significantly to this century of art.
