HelenA Pritchard

b. 1975, South Africa

HelenA Pritchard was born in 1975 in Durban, South Africa.

She lives and works in London. She has a BA in Fine Art, University of East London and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art. She is the 2012 recipient of The Stanley Spencer Scholarship.

The works of HelenA Pritchard are informed by traditions of modernist painting and relationships with craft. Using material metaphors through process and context, she inverts the principles of high and low culture.

Working with discarded, found and off-cut materials, she creates an abstract perspective on societies’ imperfections.

“I am interested in the transcendence of materials creating new forms through the art of aesthetic balance. I am fascinated with activated and contemplative surfaces and tensions of opposing abstractions.” - Helena Pritchard
